...Warns against unlawful assembly

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 146 suspected miscreants allegedly terrorising Sagamu and its environs in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
Findings revealed that the arrests were made through a coordinated effort involving police operatives, community stakeholders, and other security agencies working in close synergy.
A police source disclosed that the operation underscores the command’s resolve under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, following the recent launch of a special coordinated raid codenamed “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.” The initiative is part of deliberate measures to curb crime and address emerging security concerns within Sagamu and neighbouring communities.
The operation came on the heels of a series of strategic engagements with traditional rulers, the Sagamu Local Government Council, and heads of various security agencies, all aimed at strengthening a collaborative security framework.
The intelligence-driven raid, carried out in the early hours of April 13, 2026, targeted identified flashpoints where criminal elements were reportedly posing threats to public peace and safety. It was designed to prevent any breakdown of law and order while reinforcing security across the area.
Security personnel involved in the operation included the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), reflecting a unified and proactive security response.
Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their level of involvement in the alleged crimes.
“Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and possible prosecution,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Ojajuni commended the synergy, professionalism, and discipline exhibited by all participating agencies, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to intelligence-led and proactive policing to sustain peace and security across the state.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
In a related development, the command warned that it would not tolerate unlawful assemblies, violent protests, or any actions capable of disrupting public peace and order.
While acknowledging citizens’ rights to express grievances, the Commissioner stressed that such expressions must be lawful.
“Any attempt to resort to self-help, block public roads, or attack public institutions will be met with the full weight of the law,” he warned.
