Ogun Police Intensify Crackdown on Crime, Arrest Two Suspected ‘One-Chance’ Robbers

Operatives of the of the have arrested two suspected “one-chance” robbers allegedly terrorising residents of Obantoko and surrounding areas, recovering a stolen and other mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following a distress call received by the division on May 28, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m., regarding a robbery incident involving a female victim and her two sisters.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims boarded a taxi from the Somorin area en route to NNPC Kuto. However, upon getting to the OLG Somorin axis, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly deviated from the agreed route, turned violent, and forcefully dispossessed the victims of their valuables before pushing them out of the vehicle.

Shortly after the incident, the complainant discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen and immediately raised the alarm.

Acting swiftly on the distress report, detectives attached to the Obantoko Division, in collaboration with vigilant members of the public, mobilised to the scene and successfully arrested two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, while the vehicle used for the operation escaped.

The prompt response of the police also prevented angry residents from carrying out mob action against the suspects.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. Police also recovered the stolen iPhone 12 Pro alongside other suspected stolen mobile phones from them.

The recovered iPhone 12 Pro has since been released to its owner on bond, while the suspects remain in police custody pending the conclusion of investigation and prosecution.

Commending the officers and members of the public for their swift action and collaboration, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention across the state.
