An Elder statesman, astute politician and staunch believer of Awoism, Pa ( Chief) Samuel Ade Gbajumo is dead.
He died aged 85 years after a brief illness last Friday at a private hospital in Benin- City, the Edo state capital.
Pa Gbajumo, a.k.a., Gbaje, was a notable teacher in Benin - City, then under Western region for his neat and unique style of dressing amongst parents, guardians and school pupils.
The deceased, an inlaw to the immediate past Chairman of All Progressives Congress , APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, left Nigeria in the mid 60s to England where he studied Communication, Advertising, Marketing and Personnel Management.
While there, he added two daughters, Bosede and Nosakhare to the two he left behind in the country. Upon his return in the early 70s.
Pa Gbajumo was appointed as the personnel officer of Ukpilla Cement Factory now DANGOTE cement.
He rose to the position of Personnel Manager before retiring from the company. He went into private business of Household items and business consultancy at his sparsely furnished office on Uselu road, Benin - City.
In 1978, Pa Gbajumo and other political stalwarts joined the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo founded Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN.
He was one of the instruments that brought Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli to power as the Executive Governor of the old Bendel state.
A lover of education, hard work and perseverance, Pa Gbajumo was to be appointed to the Board of Bendel breweries by the then state government.
A father - figure who instilled disciplined on hundreds of youths, among is this reporter, Our Associate Editor. Survived by his wife, Philomena and seven children, Theresa, Francisca, Bosede, Nosakhare, Sam Jnr, Ik and uyi, his burial arrangement shall be announced later.
