The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has begun marking of Zebra Crossing and erection of Children crossing Signages in the state to enhance safe crossing of the pupils to and from their schools.
TheCaveat.info reports that the exercise which began last weekend in front of Sango-Ijoko High School, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Council area will go across the state with TRACE Officials and staff of schools assisting students during morning resumption and closing period in the afternoons.
"This project is one among many of such that will be executed this year by various TRACE Commands as directed by the Corps Commander/CEO.
"Last year, we did a similar project where we trained no fewer than 500 school teachers of primary schools for two days on traffic control and crossing pupils on the roads.
"The project which attracted who is who in the Council Area was witnessed by the Council Chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adewale Musa and Olota of Ota, Oba Abdukabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ekun II among other importantant dignitaries.
"Teachers from various primary schools in Ado-Odo/Ota Council Area were given free reflective jackets and issued with certificates of partipation", Ajibade stressed.
On why the Sango-Ijoko High School was chosen among other schools, Commander Ajibade, flanked by TRACE Unit Commander, Sango/Ijoko Command, Aduroja Ariyo, explained that, “Two factors were taken into consideration, including the high number of students attending the school (3,000 Junior students; 3, 000 Senior students) and the high number of crashes recorded periodically at the entrance of the school, prompting its choice.”
Ajibade added that the project is one among many to be executed by the agency’s different Command formations as directed by the Corps’ Commander who also directed that each Command should come up with different projects and programmes to enhance their operations.
The Area Commander further stressed that the Corps’ Commander has indicated to Officers and men of the agency, that traffic management transcends beyond enforcement to include sustainable public enlightenment, education and sensitisation.
"The execution of the projects and programmes, will enhance the fulfilment of the agency’s mandate, of traffic control, reduction of road crashes and accelerating traffic flow", he noted.
Ajibade asserted that as a government agency, “We have to partner with well meaning individuals and corporate organisations to sponsor some of these projects and programmes", he added.
A senior official of the school who appreciated the agency for its kind gesture, noted that the spot has recorded several crashes involving students of the school, hoping that with the execution of these projects, it will surely reduce the number of crashes going forward.
