The Federal High Court, Abuja division, has sentenced a renowned key food supplier to Book Haram in Borno State, to 40 years imprionsment for his involvement in terrorism-related activities.
The trial judge, Justice Binta Fatima Nyako, who handed down the judgment held that the convict, Hamatu Modu openly admitted in court to supplying food and intelligence to the terrorist group.
He was tried on a four-count charge brought by the Federal Government through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, represented by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).
The convict, Modu, had earlier pleaded guilty to all charges. Justice Nyako initially sentenced him to 10 years for each count, but following a defense request, the court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, effectively reducing his total imprisonment to 10 years.
In a related case, Isah Ali, another food supplier linked to terrorist activities in Borno, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after confessing to his offenses.
His sentence was backdated to commence from the date of his arrest three years ago.
